Not all wood is created equal. Discover the engineering marvel sourced from the Arctic Circle that redefines durability and luxury.
"Natural pine" is a generic raw material. Kontio Arctic Pine™ is a premium, highly durable selection, specifically processed and engineered to enhance its natural qualities for modern construction.
You can think of Kontio Heartwood as having a built-in immune system; just as these natural substances protect the tree in the wild, they act as an invisible shield for your home, defending it against nature's elements without the need for artificial chemicals.
Mustio Manor (Mustion Linna in Finnish, Svartå Slott in Swedish) was built in the 1780s in Southern Finland and is a wonderful example of a long-lasting log house. Built by a nobleman from massive wood on his doctor's recommendation, it remains in excellent condition today.
Guests who have stayed in the Manor include aristocrats, artists, composers, and members of the Swedish Royal family. Today, it operates as a museum, a testament to the durability of massive wood construction.
We have leading expertise in engineered wood construction technology, backed by deep experience in mass timber and advanced wood systems.
Our state-of-the-art wood machining technology ensures each component is of the highest quality. We utilize robot machining to achieve excellent dimensional accuracy.
High dimensional accuracy improves the airtightness of Kontio buildings. This ensures warmth and low energy consumption, supported by carefully dried wood.
Kontio houses are known for withstanding extreme conditions around the world, such as massive snow loads, typhoons, as well as earthquakes.
Kontio has been granted a European Technical Approval (ETA) to show that Kontio log houses meet the requirements of ETA-05/0119. This approval covers many aspects of product safety including specifications related to moisture, load-bearing, and fire.
Thanks to this ETA and our own quality control systems, Kontio houses are CE certified. With the CE mark, you can be sure that Kontio log houses comply with all the required health, safety, and environmental protection standards.
"Natural pine" is a generic raw material. Kontio Arctic Pine™ is a premium, highly durable selection, specifically processed and engineered to enhance its natural qualities for modern construction.
Sourced from Northern Finland where the harsh, cold climate forces trees to grow slowly. This slow growth creates very tight growth rings and a high percentage of durable heartwood.
Unlike generic pine, Arctic Pine is naturally resistant to decay, moisture, and pests due to its density. It far outperforms faster-growing southern pines or spruce.
The tight growth rings result in a finer, more uniform grain pattern, offering a sophisticated aesthetic compared to the wider, inconsistent rings of standard pine.
Contains natural antibacterial and antimicrobial substances. It actively manages moisture and inhibits mould growth, ensuring healthier indoor air quality.
Rated REI 90-120. Charring protects the core, slowing fire spread.
Withstands earthquakes and extreme wind speeds thanks to flexible structure.
Absorbs and releases moisture naturally ("breathing"), stabilizing indoor humidity.
Acts as a carbon sink, locking in CO2 for the building's lifetime.
